A versatile flutist and piccoloist, Erica Peel enjoys an exciting career as an orchestral player, chamber musician, soloist, composer and teacher. She began her orchestral career as Principal Flute with the Debut Orchestra in Los Angeles and went on to hold positions with the Honolulu Symphony, Des Moines Symphony, Lincoln Symphony and most recently, as piccoloist with the Omaha Symphony. During the 2014-15 season, Ms. Peel was a featured soloist with the Omaha Symphony performing the Vivaldi Piccolo Concerto in C Major. She has also performed with the Chicago Symphony, Florida Philharmonic, Music in the Mountains Festival and is a member of the Sun Valley Summer Symphony in Idaho.
Ms. Peel has been a first place prizewinner in several competitions including the National Flute Association’s Orchestral Audition Competition, the Flute Society of Kentucky’s Young Artist Competition and the Florida Flute Association’s Young Artist competition. Additionally, she was a prizewinner in the Mid-Atlantic Young Artist Competition and the South Florida Musicians Association Competition. Her primary studies have been with Jill Felber, Christine Nield-Capote at the University of Miami and MaryAnn Archer, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Spreading her wings with music outside of the classical genre, Ms. Peel is also a founding member and composer for the internationally recognized pop-fusion flute duo, In Sterio. Drawing influences from rock, folk, funk, latin, world, electro and jazz styles, they have performed for thousands of people across the country and released two albums since 2010. In Sterio’s performances have been described as “spellbinding and awe-inspiring”, and the duo has been praised as “one of the leading and most intriguing chamber ensembles in our country.”
Erica Peel has most recently lived in Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, oboist Jason Sudduth, and their 3 year old daughter, Avery. She joined the San Diego Symphony Orchestra in 2015.
