MicahWilkinson_250A native of Atlanta, Georgia, Micah Wilkinson has enjoyed a varied career as an orchestral musician, soloist, chamber artist and professor. During the 2013-14 season he performed several programs as Guest Principal Trumpet with the San Diego Symphony before winning the Principal position outright in Fall 2014. He has been Acting Second Trumpet with the Houston Symphony since his appointment in 2013. He has previously held positions with the San Francisco Symphony, the Oregon Symphony and the Tucson Symphony. During the 2011-12 Season, as Acting Second Trumpet with the San Francisco Symphony, he participated in numerous recordings. These included an album of John Adams’ music (awarded the 2013 Grammy® for Best Orchestral Performance) along with a live DVD of the Centennial Opening Night Gala, a concert which was featured on PBS’s Great Performances and broadcast internationally.

Along with performing, Micah also greatly enjoys working with trumpet students. He is currently Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at the University of Houston and was previously Adjunct Professor of Trumpet at Portland State University. In the summers, he has performed at numerous music festivals including the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music in Santa Cruz, CA, and the Bellingham, Sunriver and Astoria Music Festivals in Washington and Oregon. During the 2010 Astoria Music Festival, he was a featured soloist on Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 2. Micah is a graduate of St. Olaf College and pursued additional studies at Arizona State University and the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, Germany. His primary teachers include Martin Hodel, David Hickman, Larry Black and Anthony Plog. He most recently has lived in Houston, TX, with his wife Stefani, their energetic toddler (Eleanor) and their goofy Basset Hound (Barber).
